One of the most serious adverse events associated with anticoagulant and thrombolytic therapy is intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). Often a fatal development in the recent past, today there are effective strategies to counter these life-threatening events. In this program, you'll learn about the latest evidence-based approaches for managing coagulopathic patients with ICH. Presented by an expert in ICH, this activity will explore the incidence, characteristics, and outcomes of ICH associated with oral anticoagulant and thrombolytic therapy; the available treatment options for lowering the international normalized ratio, as well as the latest efficacy data for these agents. In addition, the guidelines for restarting anticoagulation, particularly in patients with atrial fibrillation, will be reviewed. The presentation of clinical study results, including guidance for implementing recent findings and guidelines in clinical practice, will provide stroke team members with best practices they can apply in the treatment of their patients.
This CME/CE activity is part of the ICH Training, Education, Awareness and Management (iTEAM™) Initiative and is designed to improve the care of patients with ICH from hospital admission through discharge.
